Ladywell Fields User Group Meeting: Wednesday 22nd June 2016

LFUG Meeting
Wednesday 22nd June 2016
Starts 7:30pm

Do you love Ladywell Fields? Then please come and meet other people who use and care about this Park, raise issues, and express your views on current issues.

The Ladywell Fields User Group is long established, having represented the interests of park users successfully for over 25 years.

The current Chair is Tony Rich and the Secretary is Robert Sheppard, both of whom can be contacted at ladywellfields@yahoo.co.uk

Dear Friend of Ladywell Fields,

Please come along to our meeting at 7.30pm this Weds 22 June in the Gallery at the rear of the Ladywell Tavern. Just get your drink at the bar (if you’d like one!) and walk on out the back and head into the Gallery. We’ll be upstairs.

There’s plenty to talk about this time – not least the Council’s proposal to hand management and maintenance of tennis courts to the Lawn Tennis Association, with users being required to purchase a key fob to gain access.

This meeting is also a great opportunity to raise issues direct with Glendale, the Council’s longtime parks contractors, with whom we in Ladywell Fields have historically had a very good relationship.

PLEASE COME ALONG – AND/OR LET US KNOW IF THERE’S ANY ISSUE YOU’D LIKE TO RAISE!

Tony

Martin Rowson – Political Cartoons Retrospective: Thursday 9th June 2016

Political Cartoons Retrospective
Hosted by Martin Rowson
Thursday 9th June 2016
Doors open: 7:30pm
Tickets: £12

Buy tickets at Eventbrite now.

Martin Rowson talks Cartoons as part of his Ladywell Gallery exhibition, To Hell. In a Handcart: A Retrospective of Cartoons by Martin Rowson, 1986 – 2016.

In a world where it is all too common for people to claim a right not to be offended, how far can free speech go? Do we risk giving away too much when we ‘respect feelings’? What is the role of cartoons as visual journalism? How does satire help us to explore current events? What responsibilities does the cartoonist have when it comes to people taking offence? Followed by a Q&A, be prepared to be shocked, enlightened and thoroughly entertained!

Featuring the multi-award winning cartoonist & long-time Lewisham resident’s work from The Guardian, Daily Mirror, The Morning Star, Sunday Today, Independent on Sunday, The Times, The Scotsman, Tribune, The Londoner, Time Out and many other publications, all of which is for sale. Some idiot on Wikipedia described Rowson’s style as “scathing and satirical”, which hardly scratches the surface.

Please join us for this rare opportunity for an informal and intimate discussion from one of the UK’s most distinct political commentators.

“Martin Rowson? Best cartoonist working in the UK today. When you’ve got a vicious bunch of cutthroats in power you need a cartoonist who is up for the evisceration. Rowson’s your man.”
Comedian Mark Thomas
